5 Places to Meet the Denver Technology People You Need to Know

It is overused and it is cliché – but it is also true – “It is not so much what you know, but who you know.” With Denver and Boulder’s start-up scene exploding and with the enormous influx of people moving to Colorado and the Denver area, it is critical that the right connections are made. To help you make these connections, here are 5 ideas as to where to meet the technical folks you need to know in Denver and Boulder.

 

1. Denver Startup Week

Denver Startup Week is for entrepreneurial who focus on technology, design, and business. It is a weeklong event of presentations, panels, workshops, happy hours and social gatherings.

As per denverstartupweek.org, “In 2013, 5,500+ startup community members and over 650 companies engaged in over 125 community-driven events all with the goal of celebrating everything entrepreneurial in the Mile High City.”

 

2. Women Who Code

An organization based in 10 different countries, Women Who Code is a Meet Up designed to support women from who are full-time programmers looking to expand their network and skills, or for those who have always wanted give coding a try. With over 10,000 members worldwide, Women Who Code offers free weekly technical study groups and monthly events sponsored by the likes Yelp, Github and others.

 

3. HTML5 Denver Users Group

The HTML5 Denver Users Group is made up of software developers and designers from the Mile High City who want to explore and discuss HTML5 as it is related to web and mobile devices. With over 1200 members from the Denver area, the HTML5 Denver Users Group has monthly Meet Ups with topics ranging from "The Art of AngularJS", "Resource-Oriented HTML5 Presentations" and "Polymer : Less JS, More Righteous" and more. About 150 people participate in the monthly Meet Ups hosted by Scott Davis.

 

4. Denver Java Users Group  (DJUG)

DJUG, formed in 1995, is a group of 820 Java developers and enthusiasts. This organization brings leaders and specialists in Java technologies for first hand exposure to code, best practices, tools, methodologies, and cutting-edge solutions. Between 60-100 people participate in their free monthly meetings and speaking events.

 

5. Agile Denver

Comprised of over 470 Agilists, this Denver Meet Up “is an outreach organization for agile and lean practice.” Its aim is to support folks in the Front Range in becoming better Agilists. Within this group are specialty groups such as Coaching SIG, Lean / Kanban SIG and ScrumMasters Guild. Learn about their next events here.
