At BWBacon, we’re always looking towards the future and examining ways in which we can improve, both professionally and personally. That means investing time and resources into personal development. We believe allocating resources towards these initiatives helps provide a cutting edge advantage and an enhanced degree of focus for setting and achieving meaningful goals. It’s a new year and a great time to develop your personal growth plan.

Why Is Personal Growth Important?

Personal growth is the ongoing process of understanding and developing oneself to achieve one’s fullest potential. A company's growth starts with the individual. Continuous development is the only way to improve and mature in personal and professional life. It also helps lead to increased happiness and success.

The more one learns from training the brain on focus and vision, the better equipped they are to handle the next challenge. As a result, personal growth can have a positive impact on your health — mentally, physically, and spiritually.

What Is A Personal Growth Plan?

A personal growth plan is an assessment of one’s intention, and aligning individual actions to bring those to life. It should also allow individuals to reflect on the possible benefits associated with the achieving these goals.

The personal development process typically includes:

  • Learning to recognize and utilize your strengths
  • Setting a vision or intention. This could be huge or something simple.
  • Identifying areas of personal development
  • Acknowledging habits and consciously choose to evolve them.
  • Acknowledging achievements and the aligned actions you took to get there
  • Identifying your skills

How To Prepare Your Personal Growth Plan

The first step to creating a solid plan is defining what’s important to you. What do you want to achieve now, for short-term goals, and in the distant future? How do you want to feel in your life as a whole? Once you have an understanding of your life, start to write these down. You can use a simple notebook dedicated to your plan or use one of the many online templates available for inspiration.

Once you’ve defined your goals, the next steps include:

  1. Prioritizing your vision
  2. Being realistic about your strengths
  3. Acknowledging opportunities and threats
  4. Continuing to develop new skills
  5. Taking action
  6. Finding support
  7. Measuring progress

Outside of physically writing down your plan, you can listen to podcasts and read books about personal development. There are hundreds of options available. Do a quick search for personal growth and any topics that are relevant to you. Use these resources to help inspire and guide your plan.

Taking the time to think about what you want to achieve in your life, both short and long-term, can help make your dreams a reality. Studies show that those who focus on their achievements and create clear goals are more successful.

If your personal growth plan can integrate into your current job, talk with your mentors or leaders about implementing phases of your plan into your day-to-day. Also, ask them to help you stay accountable on timelines and ideas you are trying to accomplish.

Personal growth plans are a fantastic tool for reaching the next level of success, especially in today’s fast-paced world. We all need to prioritize and continuously reassess our vision, and developing an actionable plan is a great step in the right direction.
